Eco Park December 14th – 16th, 2018. There is a certain undeniable romance about old cars. Automobiles that are obviously way past their prime, their friends and relatives long consigned to the forgotten recesses of our consciousness that refuse to bow away – cars that splatter and roll in age-defying acts, a tribute of engineering skills and technologies that themselves have moved on.
Vintage cars are as much a celebration of the past as they are an acknowledgement of the passion of the men and the women who restore these “relics” from the past to pristine glory, providing the present a chance to peep into a time very few of us can otherwise put in the right perspective. They are also an invaluable legacy, pointers to just how much we have progressed technologically since the time these cars were the rages on the roads.
The Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) was naturally excited when the invitation to participate in the Expo cum Vintage Car Exhibition being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) – for it is not often that one can have the pleasure of reaching out and embracing the past. The fact that BESC students were provided the opportunity of participating in the event as opposed to being mere spectators was obviously lapped up.
As a matter of fact, what made the entire process even more exciting was the fact that the BESC students were provided with the onerous task of spreading the message of Safe Driving in the event, help create awareness among the automobile aficionados and the crowd of onlookers who had gathered at the venue.
There was a huge crowd – vintage cars continue to be a big draw – and BE-ites performed their job with customary élan. After all, it is not often that one gets the chance of celebrating the past and spreading awareness among the future in the present! The stalls that were set up dealt mainly with cars vintage and classic – some even had spare parts on offer that are virtually impossible to come by in the present. The vintage car lovers – owners as well as people associated with the hobby were present in good numbers as were representatives of the automobile industry along with marketing professionals seeking to use the platform to highlight their latest offerings. What was heartening was the appreciation of the efforts of the BESC students and their effort to spread awareness about road safety that was voiced by the organisers and the participants alike.
