Kolkata, not only a city of joy but also a city of aesthetic saturation is widely known for the various dance forms the city has basked in. The Bhawanipur Education Society College is a widely acclaimed academic institution which has been providing great platforms to students who want to excel in different art form. To bring the best dancers under the same roof, the BESC organised The Bhawanipur Dance Championship on 14th September, 2019 at Jubilee Hall. It flagged off in the mode of a celebration at around 9:00 am. Prof Dilip Shah, the Dean of Student Affairs inaugurated the battle of dance with an inspiring poem.
“WHEN YOU OPEN YOUR HEART TO HAPPINESS/TO LET EACH PORE ABSORB LIGHT AND SOUND WHEN YOU SWIM IN THE JOY OF HERE AND NOW/AND CAST AWAY ALL DARKNESS OF THE PAST
YOU DANCE…”
The championship was consisted of six categories namely Shuffle (solo battle), Duet Eastern, Duet Western, Duet Bollywood, Folk Dance and Groove N Glam (Group Dance). Professional dancers like Anurag Ghosh (Shuffle, Duet Western and Groove N Glam), Debamitra Sengupta (Duet Classical & Folk Dance), Shreya Sen (Duet Bollywood & Groove N Glam) & Sanchaita Munshi (Folk Dance) were invited to provide their valuable judgements.
The event was flagged off with an overwhelming performance by Buoyant Performing Arts. Shreyanshu Mishra & Swapnil Thakur took over the stage as a host and firstly they announced the names of the participating colleges. The entire show was an assemblage of spontaneity and synchronisation. Tradition grooved with randomness. Bollywood shook a leg with western and certain performances were exceptionally breathtaking. The audience was awestruck by the confidence the performers had put up.
This year once again BESC proved their mettle that no one can beat their beat. Among the participating students of BESC, winners were announced and in each category they grabbed the victorious position. AJC Bose College was announced the runner up in the Shuffle, Shri Shikshayatan College in Duet Western and Shivnath Shastri in Duet Bollywood. Before the curtain for the day was to be drawn, Sourav Goswami, the music faculty of Crescendo and Prof Minakshi Chaturvedi fascinated everyone with their respective impromptu performances. At the end everyone was given a solemn thanks for arriving and making the event successful.
