“Amra morbo, Jagat Jagbe – We shall die to awaken the nation.” – Jatindranath Mukherjee (‘Bagha Jatin’)
As we entered the new year, the first National level celebration, Republic Day, was marked by the youthful students of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, School, and The Bhawanipur Design Academy who assembled to honor the Indian constitution with a line-up of performances. Members of the Management, teachers & students all gathered at the college Turf at 9:00 A.M all dressed in vibrant ethnic wear. The event started at 9.30 am with the Management felicitated with tricolor Uttariyo. The host extended a warm welcome, inviting guests to witness the majestic flag hoisting ceremony and the release of tricolor balloons into the sky. This was followed by the rendition of the Indian National Anthem. As the flag unfurled, students from ISC School of Bhawanipur, along with the tri-service wings of NCC, orchestrated a dignified March past, paying homage to the national flag.
Following it, was an address by the President of the college, Shri Rajnikant Dani, who enveloped the audience with his thoughts on the 75th Republic Day. Soon Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector & Dean of Student Affairs urged the audience to join him in the choral reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India. Before beginning the performances, the Director General, Dr. Suman K. Mukherjee gave the audience a patriotic note from his speech on Republic Day. Right after his address, the first performance, an act on the life of Bagha Jatin was enacted by a fellow thespian from the Enact collective of the college. The act contained moments from the freedom fighter’s life and the story of how he received the title of ‘Bagha’ Jatin. The act ended with the Enact team coming together to sing the famous song “ Arambh hai Prachand hai” in chorus with the audience, giving each Indian a stronger sense of nationalism.
Next in line were dance performances by the ICSE and ISC school students which delighted the audience by taking them down memory lane, with famous jingles of the 80’s & 90’s. They put on wonderful dance & theatrical acts to keep the audience feeling spirited. Keeping in mind the spirit of freedom, a showcase of self-defense techniques by Kickboxing students of the BESC was arranged to remind everyone how imperative it is to learn self-defense to be independent and free. Among other performances, students from The Bhawanipur Design Academy also joined in the celebrations and danced to beautiful patriotic numbers. Next up was a live music session by the Crescendo collective where they performed myriad songs of colors of our nation, which then set the stage for a power-packed dance performance by the eastern and western teams of the Flames Collective.
The Republic Day ceremony ended with the announcement of the best-dressed Student & Teacher, which was given to Devang Nagar & Sania Fahim, students of BESC, and the title of best-dressed Teacher was given to Dr. Suchitra & Prof. Vasundhara Mishra. With this Prof. Shah gave a vote of thanks to everyone present & requested the audience to proceed to the Valia Hall for refreshments.
