The Department of Political Science, in collaboration with Catalyst Learning Services, organized a workshop on Emerging Career and Employment Opportunities in Social Sciences on May 17, 2023. The workshop was attended by students of Semesters IV and VI of the college. The event began with the Welcome Address by Amala Dhandhania, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, where she spoke on the relevance of this workshop in understanding the diverse career options in social sciences. This was followed by an address by our respected Teacher-in-Charge, Dr. Subhabrata Ganguly who highlighted the importance of social sciences in promoting the all-round development of the nation. Mr. Sauraveswar Sen, founder mentor of Catalyst Learning Services was the key speaker in the workshop. He gave an enriching presentation on the myriad employment opportunities in the field of social sciences that can help the young students build a career, as well as through their work, contribute in making the society more inclusive and participatory. The areas of opportunity discussed spanned from climate-sensitive journalism, collaborating with think tanks and international organisations for human resource development, security studies, mentorship to civil servants, public policy, cinema and media studies. He also highlighted how the fields of social development and human resource have gained an impetus since the formulation of the New Education Policy. Mr. Sen encouraged our students by sharing instances of young minds who pursued social science courses with an aim towards social entrepreneurship, and are currently associated with various multinational corporations. Some of them are also engaged in advisory positions with the Government of India. The students actively interacted with the resource person and gained clarity on the institutes in India that provide courses related to the social sector and the basics of applying for such courses. The event concluded with the vote of thanks given by Dr. Debanjana Chakravarti, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science.
