The Bhawanipur Education Society College celebrated the 162nd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on 13th May 2023 (Saturday). It was organized by the Department of Bengali in collaboration with the IQAC. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp followed by the inaugural song presented by Prof. Pushpita Ganguly, Associate Professor, Department of Statistics. The key note address was given the Teacher-in-Charge Dr.Subhabrata Gangopadhyay. The next speaker was Prof. Debjani Ganguly, Vice Principal of Arts who spoke on the contemporary relevance of Tagore. The resource person of the programme was Prof. Indrashish Banerjee, Associate Professor of Ramkrishna Mission Vidya Mandir Political Science Department. He presented a paper entitled “Bhanga Gaan Gora Gaan, Prachya Pashchatya o Kobi Guru”. Apart from discussing the history and the timeline of Tagore’s folk music creations, he also focused on the different and popular genre of the Baul community.
Audio Drama(Teachers’ Contribution) “Bisarjan” was staged by the teachers of various departments. The entire audio drama was seen in rapt attention and immensely appreciated by the audience as this piece put forward the absolute crisis that is created due to religious superstition and dogmatism which leads to sacrifice in the name of religion, and how Rabindranath counters it with his logic of humane understanding of these inhuman practices.
The audio drama was followed by a host of cultural events. Several songs created and penned down by Tagore himself were performed by the students and the teachers. The Invited guest singers were Rajnath Das (with Arup Bagh){English department} and Prof. Apalak Das (Rani Birla girls college). It was followed by a row of elocoutionary endeavor by the teachers and students of the college. Dance performances were showcased by the students to pay tribute to Rabindranath Tagore. The students also staged an enchanting performance of ‘Natir Puja’ an adaptation from Tagore’s verse ‘Abhishar’. More than 150 participants (40 teachers and 110 students) joined this day long cultural programme from our college. The programme was concluded by the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Mili Sammaddar, Head of the Department, Bengali.
