“A teacher affects eternity. He can never tell where his influence stops.” – Henry B Adams
Teachers are parent like figures whom we rely on to learn some basic to complicated lessons and some of the greatest principles and ethics in life. Gone are the days, when people associated teachers with whips and a vehement demeanour. Regardless of the ways they chose to teach and preach, they had persistently rendered effort to truly shape a student into a worthy individual. Teachers are powerful characters and their personality sprinkles inspiration on the minds of the students. New generation of teachers with new pedagogical aids have transformed the conception of academics into something interactive and compelling. And, we reserve a day of tribute and celebrations for our esteemed mentors. On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the management and the collectives of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, organised an event, aptly called, ‘Pranam’, dedicating it to the faculties in all departments of the college.
The day of event happened to be Monday. The celebration was scheduled in two slots, one at 9.30 am in the morning and the next at 4.30 in the evening. Both the celebrations had display of identical performances. Teachers and students assembled at Jubilee Hall, the venue. The decoration of the space was moderate but engaging. In the beginning the audience was asked to guess names of classic songs by just hearing out the tune. The event commenced with a recital of Ganpati Vandana. It was sung by Shubhalaxmi Majumder and Madhura Purkayastha. The Crescendo Collective exhibited a dazzling performance where they sang Bollywood peppy numbers. Flames, Classical ignited a daze in the viewers. They performed Shiv Tandava in pure Kathak style. Also, the collective gripped the audience and set the stage on fire with their exuberant freestyle moves. The volunteers also put up a separate dance performance and their efforts were appreciated. Enact delivered a jocular play and the Fashionistas walked in an elegant demeanour, showcasing finesse in their skill of being fashionistas.
This event was successful in evoking smiles on the faces of teachers and students alike. And this is, what was desired – to bring respite to those who invest all their energies to educate us. And so, we repeat, “A teacher affects eternity….”
