Objective of the event: The Peer Seminar is a departmental activity initiated by the Department of English where each month, a member of the faculty presents their research papers in front of the other teachers of the Department. This has been instituted as an attempt to encourage academic dialogue and widen research perspectives amongst the faculty. Peer seminar continues to be a unique endeavour by the Department of English in order to encourage a promising atmosphere for research and the exchange of scholarly ideas. It serves to enrich faculty members and students alike through the facilitation of critical thinking and dialogue.
Brief description of the event: The Department of English, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised Peer Seminar: Chapter 8 on 29th May, 2024 at 1:45 pm. The speaker was Dr. Souraja Tagore; her paper was entitled “Following Tagore’s Footsteps a Century After: An Academic and Artistic Journey through China”. In her presentation she shared her experience of her recent visit to China as an artist and scholar. The Consulate General of The People’s Republic of China in Kolkata made intensive preparations to mark Rabindranath Tagore’s centenary visit to China in April 2024. Dr. Souraja Tagore, Assistant Professor, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Kolkata, was invited to China from 10th -18th April 2024 to commemorate Tagore’s visit to China. Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai were among the major cities she visited. Scholars, artists, and students exchanged ideas during seminars, cultural events, historic site visits, and academic symposiums. Souraja also shared her experience of visiting the Centennial Lilac Poetry Festival of Fayuan Temple in Beijing on 17th April 2024. The seminar was held in Room 515 from 1:45 pm; it was attended by faculty members, PG semester III students along with a few UG semester V students of the Department of English.
Outcome of the event: The session was a great success and a learning experience on a new arena of Tagore scholarship. It was attended by UG and PG students of the department who participated in critically engaging discussions with Dr. Souraja Tagore during the Q&A session.
The Department of Political Science organised an academic trip to Kolkata Municipal Corporation on 1st April,2024 for the students of Semester 6. A total of 48 students accompanied by 5 teachers visited the main office of KMC, situated in New Market Area.The KMC officials very gladly received the students and provided them with welcome drinks …
