The Department of Bengali, Bhawanipur Education Society College, Kolkata, organised a Nature’s Camp from the 17th to 22nd of May, 2023. The trip entailed a participation of 21 students and 3 professors. The camp was based in the Todey-Tangta region, a remote area right on the Indo-Bhutan border. Being amidst nature, students got the opportunity to break away from the hectic city hustle and instead focus on self reliance and acting in accordance to nature for the landscape comprised of mountains with rich vegetation, cold and rainy weather and most importantly, lack of Internet connectivity. This ensured that students honed their skills of teamwork and coordination while undertaking in adventurous trekking through the flora and fauna of the beautiful place. Students were also exposed to the Buddhist-Bhutanese culture of the region, getting to know about the history of the 2 mountain villages through hikes (to Tangta Buddhist monastery) and camp fire interactions with the locals. Every student experienced a change in mindset, an encouraging increase in self confidence and most importantly were witness to an eye opening scenario of how the world really is, outside the comfort of their homes. Our professors played a significant part in guiding the students, further facilitating the paramount objective of the camp: raising responsible and mature individuals who can walk through life, refusing to be trapped by the various toxic elements around them. The Nature’s camp is organised and sponsored every year by the college. As students, this sponsorship is highly appreciated and we are indebted to the college management for providing us such wonderful opportunities. Suffice it to say, such trips are essential for a student’s growth and development, bringing them closer to nature.
