The Bhawanipur Education Society College in association with the Eastern India Regional Council (EIRC) of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) jointly hosted a half-day seminar in the Concept Hall by the name “Damini – Shakti Rupena Samsthita” to celebrate International Women’s Day. The seminar was one of its kind and saw the presence of Smt: Usha Uthup, a Padma Bhushan Awardee, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The guest list also included esteemed personalities like RJ Jimmy Tangree (Head of 91.9 FM) as the Moderator along with the panelists CS. Mamta Binani, former President of ICSI, RJ Kuheli (91.9 FM), Ms. Sukrity Agarwal, Founder of Outbox (featured on the first season of Shark Tank India) and CS Ritu Bajaj, Director of Visa Steel.
At 10:00 AM, the Concept Hall had a footfall of 250 strong audience among which 170 were members of the ICSI. The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest accompanied by several speakers, and notable members of the college’s managing body. In the welcome address delivered by CS Dr. Mohit Shaw, Chairman of the EIRC of the ICSI; he spoke about the need to empower and educate women to enable them to raise their standards of living, which will bring forth a better future generation and empower us all in turn. In a keynote speech by Smt. Usha Uthup highlighted how a thin line drawn by women can make all the difference. By sharing her own experiences of receiving recognition, she explained how monumental recognition becomes important in women’s empowerment. CS Rupanjana Dey, a Council member of ICSI spoke about how powerful women become efficient decision-makers and make crucial contributions to society. Next, Dr.Suman Mukherjee, Director General of BESC also spoke on the pivotal role of women in society.
After the insightful addresses, the panel discussion started with the topic for the day namely “Being different is the new normal”. The stage was taken over by RJ Jimmy Tangree, who moderated the event with speakers such as RJ Kuheli, Ms. Sukriti Agarwal, and CS Ritu Bajaj presenting their thoughts on the topic. Lastly, a special video message from CS Mamta Binani containing her thoughts on the leadership of women in the professional realm was presented. The event ended with a vote of thanks to all the dignitaries for their presence and to the BESC.
The event was indeed a hit and came to be highly resourceful for students and members alike. It was a stern reminder of the need for women’s empowerment even in present times. After several requests from the audience, Smt Usha Uthup gave an enthralling performance which added joy to the experience.
