The GD-PI round is considered to be the most crucial step in cementing one’s admission either to the B-schools in the country or to any organisation before recruitment. Most of the organisations of repute are in the practice of using it as the platform to enlist the deserving candidates and Bhawanipur Education Society College having taken the challenge of raising its bar higher persistently, recently organised its 2nd GD & PI workshop on 2nd September, 2019.
Around 100 students mostly 1st year from divergent streams like B.A, B.Com, B.Sc & BBA attended the workshop, organised in the Society Hall from 12 pm and continued till 3 pm. The speakers invited on the occasion were Miss Shahida Hussain & Mr Vedant Pasari. Miss Shahida Hussain, an avid learner & a career counsellor, has been working as the HR Chief Manager at ICICI Bank for the last 11 years of her career and she has also been teaching as a faculty of BESC for the last 2 years. Mr Vedant Pasari is the owner of Rajat Group that has major eatery brands like “Meals & Memories”, “Edabba” etc.
Ms Shahida with her usual professional expertise addressed the students with a welcoming note and straightaway highlighted the topic of discussion. She said that a candidate is judged and analysed on the basis of his performance at GD-PI rounds. It is at this stage that makes or breaks a candidate’s confidence. Highlighting the basics of GD she opinionated that a candidate should approach the topic structurally without making a hassle because each one gets ample amount of time. She was also heard quoting “The objective of a group discussion is to appraise a candidate’s ability to critically analyse a given piece of information and collectively work in a group to arrive at a solution or develop a perspective. The rationale behind this exercise is that when a group of students is given a task to accomplish within an unstructured situation, they will try to accomplish it by establishing some order or structure. In this process, they will reveal some of their personality characteristics.” The etiquette and gestures in GD PI also reflect the candidate’s personality and ability to cope up with the situational uncertainties and Miss Hussain elongated her speech particularly on this part.
An absolutely unique concept of video profiles was introduced by Mr Vedant Pasari, who was the next speaker. The whole point of a video presentation is to offer a potential employer greater insight into the candidate than a traditional resume can, so just reading aloud the contents of the CV is a waste of everyone’s time. He in fact suggested the ways with which a candidate can use the video to help the employer get a sense of not just what he/she has achieved, but what is capable of achieving in the future. He believes that this concept will definitely help the candidates get upper hand in MNC recruitments.
Although the workshop was a prolonged session, overall it was a learning experience for everyone. As it is wisely said “LEARNING IS NOT ATTAINED BY CHANCE, IT MUST BE SOUGHT FOR WITH ARDOR AND ATTENDED TO WITH DILIGENCE.” For BESC students everyday is a day to learn something new and weave the coronet as a symbol of experience.
