The Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) hosted EUPHONIOUS’ 23, an intercollegiate Musical Festival, on October 6, 2023 from 9:00 am till 6:30 pm. The music collective of the college, ‘Crescendo’, with their endless efforts had managed to put this event together which took place in the Concept and Jubilee Halls of the campus respectively. The opening ceremony of this, melody-filled event was blessed with the encouraging words of Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector and the Dean of Student Affairs. Prof. Shah, while motivating the students to pursue music, himself put forward his musical skills by presenting to the audience as he played some soulful tunes on the synthesizer.
A number of colleges, from all over Kolkata, were invited to participate in this musical festival. St. Xavier’s College, Jadavpur University, The Heritage College, Shri Shikshayatan College, Scottish Church College, Heramba Chandra College, NSHM, and others took an active part in the events organized and fared well in the respective categories. Special guest singers & musicians like Mr. Krisna Mukherjee, Mr. Kaustav Banerjee, Mr. Sagar Paul, Amandi Singha (Captain Singh A), Mr. Saurabh Chaturvedi ( Dilfake), Mr.Soutrik Banerjee, and Mr.Subhajit Goswami were invited as judges to evaluate the performances of the participants and choose the most deserving talent to take back home the winning titles.
Euphonious was designed in a number of sub-categories such as:
Solo Eastern: Heramba Chandra College stood first followed by Jadavpur University in the second and Shri Shikshayatan College in the third position.
Solo Western: Theo Wreek Gupta of BESC triumphed, while Scottish Church College stood second and Shri Shikshayatan stood third.
Solo Instrumental: Sujal Sonkar of BESC (main) bagged the first prize while Scottish Church College was declared the first runner-up and BESC (OTSE) the second runner-up.
Solo Bollywood: Priyanshu Dutta of BESC triumphed while Jadavpur University stood second and Heramba Chandra College stood third.
Solo Rapping: Aryan Nasim from BESC took home the winning title while Jadavpur University was declared the first runner-up.
Western Band: Heads were held high as BESC western band bagged the winning trophy.
Bollywood Band: St. Xavier’s College took home the winning trophy while BESC secured second place and Jadavpur University the third.
The members of the Humsufi Band (invited over as judges) performed songs like “Halka Halka Suroor” and “Teri Deewani” for the audience. The bar was held high as Captain Singh A and Dilfake gave electrifying guest performances and left the crowd astounded. They said, “We have performed here before and will always be delighted to perform again.”
“Euphonious is a wonderful platform to build confidence, portray talent, and get a headstart towards professionalism’, said one of the judges as he praised all the participating colleges and specifically mentioned some of them. The audience also witnessed tremendously beautiful renditions of “Ragas” such as Raag Bhairavi, Raag Khamaj, Jab deep jale (based on Raag Yaman).
The heterogeneity and diversity were established by the different songs performed by the participants. Sun Le Zara, Mitwa, O re piya, Dil se re,I want to break free, Speechless, Still loving you, Chandelier were some of the songs that mesmerized the audience and enthralled them. One of the most eye-catching moments was the tiebreaker in the Solo Western category where Scottish Church College, Jadavpur University, and Shri Shikshayatan College battled against each other to secure the second and third positions.
Euphonious’23 concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, during which the champions proudly carried their trophies home, and the rest pledged to return with even more enthusiasm next time.
“Success is not final, and failure is not fatal,” emphasized Prof. Shah of The BESC as he commended and encouraged all the participants for their outstanding sportsmanship.
The Bhawanipur College emerged victorious in the overall category, with Jadavpur University securing the second prize. This captivating and enchanting musical journey left everyone beaming with smiles and hearts brimming with immense joy. The event’s success was attributed to the unwavering support from the college representative, Devang Nagar, the skilled anchors, including Tushitaa Chhughani, Akshit Ray, Lakshya Sharma, and Nishtha Shah, the diligent hospitality team, and the dedicated PCS volunteers.
