The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized an interactive session on July 6 in the Society hall for the students and faculty members about the emerging trends in Education.
Dr Abdulla Rasheed Ahmed, Minister of State for Education & Head of National Institute of Education of Republic of Maldives was invited as the chief guest. The session started around 11.00 am and ended by 12:30 pm. The interactive session was attended mostly by the students of B.Com, B.A & some NCC cadets also. The symposium commenced with a welcome speech by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah, who felicitated the chief guest with a token of appreciation.
Dr Abdulla Rasheed Ahmed started the session by introducing himself and talking briefly about his journey towards academic excellence. He conveyed the message that one must love the work one is doing & in this changing world the education system is evolving rapidly. He highlighted that the student should have a goal to achieve and must be aware of why they are pursuing a particular course or degree. He suggested a book named ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ by Stephen Covey and said students must focus on being task oriented.
He mentioned the 6Cs which are required to become a successful person in life. We must focus on human resource development and the youth of today should not be just the consumers of the society but also become contributors of the society. He suggested this is how we can get to use the best human resources available in the field of education. Collaboration, Critical thinking, Communication, Creativity, Citizenship, and Character are the quintessential elements that must be present in a successful person.
At the beginning of learning anything, we exhibit the same curiosity and excitement as experienced but once that phase is over, we decide to keep on doing the same things & start finding it mundane. The motivation for education might emerge from external factors, but one only enjoys doing that work when the motivation is intrinsic. He suggested a few strategies to change the education system of our country, where we must focus on project-oriented and skill-based learning instead of carrying out the traditional way of teaching. The teacher must work as a facilitator and let students explore new things and come up with out-of-the-box ideas. Organizing a student exchange program will create a cosmopolitan environment for the students to interact and open a door for innovative ideas. He concluded the symposium on the note that Cross-cultural education is important for human resource development.
The students raised a few questions which Dr Abdulla Rasheed answered critically. The session ended with a thank you note delivered by Prof. Harshit Chokhani who addressed the gathering and wished them well. This interactive session was very beneficial for the students with respect to the rapid changes in the educational system.
