The Department of Education organised an educational tour to Doordarshan Kendra on December 12 and 13, 2022. The first batch of 40 students went on Day 1, and the remaining 37 students went on Day 2. As a collaborative effort, students of the Hindi Department also joined the tour on Day 2.
The students were oriented towards the technical aspects of the Doordarshan Kendra. In the beginning, the students were introduced to the authorised personnel of Doordarshan, who guided them through the various operational and production rooms like the Central Apparatus Room, Production Control Room, Server rooms, and Transmitter rooms. The authorities demonstrated how the flow of work had to be continuous, starting from scriptwriting to final production. The students were then taken to the live news broadcasting room, where they came across the news reader delivering the news in perfect synchronisation with the teleprompter. Following that, the students moved on to the server room, where they saw how the recorded programmes were lined up, ready to be connected to the satellite. This was one of the most important processes in the production section. Our students were meticulously oriented towards recording, editing and finally telecasting the programmes. Subsequently, our three students, Unnati Joshi, Urvashi Jhawar, and Aanchal Bansal, were selected to shoot a small episode in the studio room. Our students were also amazed to find a compact studio arranged in the mobile van. All the recordings were sequentially arranged in the archival section for future reference.
This field visit gave students an insight into television broadcasting. Based on this visit, students were required to write their tutorial assignment and conduct a survey on the relevance and importance of television in present times.
