Delegates to the MUN – the Model United Nations organised by the students of BESC had such full plates in the conference that they did not fill their plates the way the organisers, hosts per excellence, would have liked to. As a result, the event was marked by excess food, a bit of an anti-climax, considering the obsession of the global diplomatic community with hunger and food shortages.
However, BESC rose to the occasion it its characteristic manner with the NSS collective of the College stepping in to provide a sustainable (read humane) solution to the diplomatic excess (no pun intended)!
Darshdeep Walia and Shivam Gupta collected the excess food and transported the same to the hungry in and around Ultadanga Road, where NSS volunteers have had previous experience of working. It as a pleasant surprise for the hungry, who savoured the spread to their heart’s content, some going to the extent of blessing the world diplomatic community for extending the unexpected food support. The entire credit of organising the exercise on a war footing (not to mention the presence of mind) goes to Dr Divyesh Shah, HOD of the Morning Commerce Section and the moving spirit behind the NSS Collective of BESC.
