The National Seminar on Contemporary Research in Theoretical and Applicable Mathematics 2018 was organised by the Department of Mathematics, The Bhawanipur Education Society College on September 14-15, 2018.
The seminar started at 9.30 am on September 14, 2018 with the Welcome Address of Dr. Nirabhra Basu, Assistant Professor of Department of Mathematics and Dr. Suchandra Chakravarty, Teacher-in-charge of the college. Following their speech, Swami Suparnananda from The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, who was also the chief-guest of the event, enlightened the audience.
The first technical session started at around 11 am with a talk of Dr. Indranath Sengupta from IIT Gandhinagar. The title of his talk was “The Coin Exchange Problem”. Dr. A. Deb Ray from the University of Calcutta was the second speaker of the day who discussed the resemblance and difference between C(X) and the ring of Baire one functions on a topological space X. In the second technical session, Dr. Jaydeb Sarkar from ISI Bangalore delivered his talk on Differentiation. The title of his talk was “Differentiation, from real to complex”. The third technical session started at 3.45 pm in which several participants presented their papers.
The second day of the seminar (September 14, 2018) started with a talk of Prof. Arindama Singh, IIT Chennai on Incompleteness phenomena in arithmetic. Following his talk, Dr. P. Biswas of the von Karman Society for Advanced Study and Research in Mathematical and Social Sciences, Jalpaiguri discussed the scope of research and seminar activities in colleges. In the next technical session for the day, Prof. V. Kannan from University of Hyderabad enlightened the audience on “Orbit patterns of interval maps”. In the last session, several participants presented their papers. The seminar ended with the Valedictory session and vote of thanks from the organisers. Around 75 students and teachers of different institutes took part in the seminar and the seminar was a success.
