For the enhancement of human endurance, musculoskeletal ability, and cognitive capacities, a three-day Combat Training Workshop was organised in the college from 5th December 2023 to 9th December at the college campus. The event was guided by the referees from KAWB (Kickboxing Association of West Bengal) affiliated with BOA (Bengal Olympic Association) and Mr. Asutosh Kumar Jha (International medallist, and coach of The Bhawanipur College).
The workshop began at 7:00 am and continued for 2 hours each day. The athletes received instructions regarding the basic tenets of chess boxing, kickboxing, and the complexity of playing chess. The championship witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 25 students representing various academic disciplines. Both experienced martial artists and novices joined forces, highlighting the inclusive nature of the event and the growing interest in kickboxing within the college community. Participants demonstrated their proficiency in various kickboxing styles, showcasing a combination of powerful kicks, precise punches, and strategic defence.
Mr. Asutosh Kumar Jha, who is also an alumnus of the college, and Miss. Khushi Lakra led the workshop in the presence of the college’s Sports in-charge. The participants were shown the conventional boxing position and were trained in fundamental boxing skills on the first day. The mentors focused their concentrated gaze on each one of the participants with meticulous attention. Lastly, the professionals demonstrated a handful of methodologies to the participants, which proved to be of great assistance. On the second day, the emphasis was put on chess boxing training. The coaches necessitated the participants to practice punching on the pads in addition to engaging in playing chess. Kickboxing training was put more emphasis upon on the last day mainly because the students were already familiar with some boxing techniques. Lastly, the students fought a few bouts between themselves under the tutelage of coaches.
After the championship, winners were acknowledged and awarded for their outstanding performance. Certificates were presented to participants who exhibited exceptional skill, sportsmanship, and dedication to the sport of kickboxing. Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector and Dean of Student Affairs awarded 25 students’ certificates for completing the training successfully.
