Objective of the event: The event aimed to bridge the gap between research and industry by posing the fundamental role of artificial intelligence in driving technological advancements and revolution.
Brief Description of the event:
The Bhawanipur Education Society College held a one-day national seminar on November 14, 2024, named “Empowering Transformation through AI, Research, and Industry Collaboration.” Hosted by the Department of Computer Science, the event aimed to bridge the gap between research and industry by posing the fundamental role of artificial intelligence in driving technological advancements and revolution. The seminar featured prominent speakers including Dr. Mayuri Mehta, a distinguished professor from Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology, Gujarat, and Mr. Sabyasachi Saha, CEO & Co-Founder of Techno Exponent, Kolkata. The event attracted participants from a wide range of backgrounds, including students, researchers, and professors. Informative speeches were also delivered by several distinguished individuals who contributed to the success of the seminar. The Head of the Department of Computer Science, Mr. Sanjib Halder, along with Dr. Samir Kanti Dutta, Dean of the Science Department, Dr. Pinki Saha Sardar, Vice Principal of the Science Department, and Teacher in Charge, Dr. Subhabrata Ganguly, shared their thoughts on the significance of AI in modern education and its potential for shaping the future. They also provided valuable insights into the role of technology in advancing research, particularly in the context of AI, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration for driving innovation in this rapidly evolving field. Their speeches further enriched the seminar, offering perspectives from various facets of academia and technology. In addition to BESC students, more than 40 students from nine other colleges across Kolkata participated in the seminar. These institutions included AJC Bose College, Syamaprasad College, NSHM, Bangabasi College, RCC Institute of Information Technology, Narasinha Dutt College, Vivekananda College, and Asutosh College, with attendees from diverse departments such as Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. The first half of the seminar featured Mr. Sabyasachi Saha, who informed the audience with his discussion on innovative AI applications, particularly in image and video analysis. He presented several practical projects, including an advanced AI model capable of extracting detailed vehicle information from video footage using artificial intelligent techniques. Another notable demonstration was a real-time clothing try on system used in the fashion industry. Through these examples, Mr. Saha emphasized how AI is transforming industries and improving real-world processes by applying theoretical concepts in practical settings. The second half of the seminar was led by Dr. Mayuri Mehta, who took a more academic approach, exploring the prospects of AI research and its potential to revolutionize various fields. Dr. Mehta, with her extensive experience in AI and machine learning, shared her valuable insights on the ongoing research trends and the future directions of AI. She discussed key areas such as machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision, and highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of AI, stressing the importance of collaboration between academia and industry for advancing AI technologies. The seminar concluded with a sense of enthusiasm and curiosity among the attendees, as many students expressed being deeply informed and inspired by the sessions.
