36 Chambers of Corporate Communications – 12 down, 24 to go!
We had 12 regular classes in October. We also had a session with Mr Satyan and Mrs Parul Bhatt, Co-Founders of Prism PR, Chennai. Mr Satyan Bhatt is the ex chairman of the Chennai Chapter of the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) and is acknowledged as a doyen of Corporate Communications and Public Relations in India. He shared his deep insights about the industry with us which were extremely enlightening to us. He also offered to take six students from the course as interns in his organisation.
We also attended various Press Conferences – both as Journalists representing the Core Sector Communiqué and as students of Corporate Communications. Among the conferences we attended during the month was the launch of new projects by Kemia Homes at the HHI; a roundtable on the “New Education Policy – implications for school and Higher education” organised by the Education Promotion Society of India , 1st edition of e-business submit & Entrepreneur’s Businesses Forum by Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the 115th Annual General Meeting of the Merchants Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCC&I) at the Taj Bengal where the Chief Guest was Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Mines, Coal and New & Renewable Energy Sources, Government of India.
Attending the conferences was extremely beneficial for us as we learnt not only about the burning issues of the day from those that matter, but were also provided with an insight on how such conferences are organised, how PR agencies and Corporate Communication professionals interact with the members of the media and the clients. Getting to see the practical application of what we learn in our classes was what really helped us put things in the proper perspectives and appreciate the finer nuances of corporate communications. It has been decided that all the students of the course will be exposed to such experiences by turn, which too is in keeping with the spirit of the course.
We have also started working with the Express Group of publications for their forthcoming info-zine on the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI). This magazine will seek to take a look at the segment through our eyes – people born after the economy was unshackled in 1991 – and will hopefully, feature articles on the segment from many of us. We are working real hard to take the challenge that has been thrown to us and convert it into an opportunity for us and our institution.
The high point of the month was the lead article by one of our classmates Tristha Sharma, that was published in all the editions of the Financial Express and the Indian Express. The article was on Make in India and was very well appreciated by, we are told, among others, the highest office in the country. All kudos goes to Tristha, for writing such a well researched piece and for keeping the flag of BESC fluttering in all its glories.
The 36 chambers of Corporate Communications is now a month old. We are through 12 of the 36 chambers that will transform us into Shaolin Monks in our quest to spread the good word. This month has left a lasting impression on the minds of many of us and we are indeed indebted to the college for offering us this opportunity to seek out our destiny.
In parting let me just say this to underscore the point – we will be attending classes even during the puja holidays. Such is the intoxication of the course. Anyone wanting to join us in this exciting journey into the world of communication can check us out at CorpComm@BESC in linked in.
Watch this space, we will keep you posted as we go there and do it, all.
