The objective of the event: To clean Panihati Gouranga Ghat and spread awareness about the importance of ghat restoration.
Brief description of the event: The NSS unit of The BESC visited Gouranga Ghat Sodepur for a cleanliness drive and ghat restoration in association with SKECT’s Women Water Warriors “Jal Sanjeevani”, Indian River Basin Council on 19.01.2024. NSS volunteers cleaned the ghat stairs and surroundings and conducted an awareness campaign. Gouranga Ghat is one of the busiest ghats in Sodepur Panihati. The health and cleanliness of rivers are directly linked to the well-being of the environment, communities, and the economy. Panihati Dandamahotsavtala ghat cleaning campaign was our way to support Ghat rejuvenation initiatives for preserving historical and cultural heritage. During this drive, the students cleaned the entire ghat stairs and its surroundings. The NSS volunteers participated in creating awareness among the public by holding placards and informing them about the importance of clean and healthy surroundings. The cleanliness drive went on for three hours, where students showed full enthusiasm in cleaning the ghat and disposing of wet and dry waste separately. The volunteers urged locals to take up proper disposal and made them aware of the benefits of cleanliness.
Outcome of the event: Cleaned ghat area and its surroundings.
