Apart from being the founder of the two major newspapers in India, Sambad Kaumudi (Bengali) and Mirat – Ul – Akhbar (Persian), Rammohan Roy also wrote his first religious text in 1820 in Persian, “Tuhafat – Ul – Muwahidin,” where he showed his respect for the monotheistic aspect of the Islam.
Rammohan Roy’s pledge to uphold the rights of women was elaborately explained by the lecturer. Multiple aspects of journalistic Rammohan Roy were also highlighted in a detailed way. The lecture became lively with the students and the faculty members’ direct interaction with the eminent speaker. It facilitated clearing doubts about some points highlighted by the resource person. The session ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Shaswati Das. She thanked the speaker for such a wonderful and informative session on Raja Rammohan Roy and hoped of having more sessions like this in the future.
