The Department of Mathematics of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, organised a seminar entitled as “1729” to celebrate the National Mathematics Day on 22nd December, 2022 from 10 am onwards in the Society Hall, 2nd floor of the college. The seminar started with the welcome address by Dr. Subhabrata Gangopadhyay, the Teacher-in-Charge & Mr. Dilip Shah, the Dean of Students Affairs, followed by an enriching introductory speech about the event by Dr. Kaushik Chattopadhyay, one of the Coordinators of this event.
In the technical session-I, Mr. Arghan Dutta, alumni (Batch of 2017-2022) who is currently pursuing masters from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, was the first speaker of the day delivered his topic on “Category Theory — The Modern Language of Mathematics” and second speaker Mr. Aniruddha Bhattacharjee, alumni (Batch of 2019-2022) who is currently pursuing his masters from the Chennai Mathematical Institute, Chennai, talked about “Primes and their mysteries”.
Technical Session-II was graced by the esteemed chief guest Dr. Arnab Chakraborty, Associate Professor, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. The session was chaired by Dr. Samir Kanti Datta, Dean of Science and he introduced the speaker Dr. Arnab Chakraborty followed by the talk of Dr. Pinki Saha Sardar, Vice Principal, Science who highlighted the main objectives of the seminar and felicitated our chief speaker with a flower bouquet. All the Teachers and students participants of the department of Mathematics including other departments of the Science Section enjoyed and motivated by the very engaging, enriching and enlightening session of the chief guest Dr. Arnab Chakraborty on “Mathematics and Magic”. The whole day event was hosted by two of the semester-V students Aatikah Khan and Shria Nath. Total 49 Students, 32 Teachers of Science Section participated in this event.
The main focus of the seminar was the “alumni meet” for which many alumnus of different batches was present in the event. It was an interactive and panel discussion session in which they guided the students of ongoing semesters and answered all their future career related queries. They also shared their experiences and provided career related guidance which really helped the students to have a clear outlook. The seminar came to an end with the vote of thanks presented by other coordinator, Ms. Soumyi Chowdhury. This enthralling and enlightening event was ended with a grand success.
