The Department of Education and the Department of Hindi organised a study tour for the students of Semester 4 to Manovikas Kendra on 5th May 2022. The Semester 4 curriculum for the Department of Education has been designed to understand the concepts of differently abled children. As for the Department of Hindi they have “Jainendra ka Manovyagyanik Upanyas Tyagpatra” which is intricately related to the field of Psychology. Keeping this is mind both the departments decided to orient our students towards the functionalities of an inclusive school.
Manovikas Kendra works for the welfare and rehabilitation of children with disabilities. It also works towards spreading awareness about issues related to special children. The teachers of Manovikas Kendra provided an extensive orientation programme to our students by showing them the nook and corner of their institution related to Assessment, Diagnosis, Therapeutic Intervention, Inclusive Education, Human Resource Development and Bio-Medical Research for the overall development of persons with special needs. Our students were shown how skill-based training was provided to make the specially-abled minds employable and economically independent. Manovikas Kendra showed a separate unit for children with Autism where students are categorized into two sections based on their functional level and age. Lastly the Principal of the institution, Mrs Rinku Gaine delivered a special lecture on “Sensitization towards Children with Disabilties” where she elucidated on the need to develop an empathetic attitude and a compassionate mindset towards people with special needs. Dr Rekha Nariwal, Associate Professor, Department of Education, took the opportunity to thank the Management and Dr Subhabrata Ganguly, Teacher-In-Charge of our college for approving this educational tour. She also appreciated the faculty members of Manovikas Kendra for their selfless and consistent efforts in contributing towards the welfare of the society by trying to make it “inclusive” in its true sense.
This tour has been an invaluable learning experience for our students, and they have pledged to become responsible members of the society by attending, understanding, and accepting all kinds of differences and diversities that they come across in their lives, with all their love and empathy.
