On 8th January 2015 the orientation cum inaugural program of NSS was held. Mr. P K Prantik , Youth Officer & Head , NSS Regional Centre(W.B/Sikkim) , Prof. Soumendra Laha , NSS Programme Officer , Prof. Dilip Shah Dean of Student Affairs , Prof. Pushpita Ganguli Coordinator of Social Welfare Committee , were the speakers of the event.
An introduction to NSS was given by SL sir. Then Mr. P.K. Patnaik- youth officer and head,NSS regional centre (WB/Sikkim) told the students that the NSS started in 1969 with 40000 people. The students were told the values and rules on which NSS works. Mr. Patnaik quoted the words of Swami Vivekananda “Personality Development is possible through community service “. The fun part was that the students were taught the NSS special clap. Mr. Patnaik told us that NSS runs on the three Ds – Discipline, Decorum, and Decency. The causes to which NSS serves are – environment, health, education, disaster, rural development. Prof. Dilip Shah told students the benefit of working as a NSS volunteer and how students can enhance their skills.

Communique 2014 was an inter-college academic meet which allowed showcasing the talent of students in events like debate, extempore, quiz, etc. The event brought together students from various colleges like Shri Shikshayatan College, Ashutosh College, JDBI College, Goenka College, THK Jain College, Shyamaprasad College, Jagdish Chandra College, Dept of Law CU and many more.
The Street Play was held in the lawn in front of the Common Room. It was judged by Abhishek Bannerjee and Janardhan Ghosh. A total of five team had participated and each team consisted of eight to ten members. The topic allotted to them was Rape and accordingly the teams carried out their performances.
In this highly goal-oriented era of the Digital age, the new age motto of skill-based knowledge has become of prime importance for the students in the country.
