Here’s an interesting phenomenon. After cracking one of the toughest entrance exams in India – CAT, you’d assume that it would be smooth sailing for the best talent in the country. Many would believe that after getting into an elite MBA institution would be a piece of cake for the best talent and once you are selected the journey is always smooth sailing thereafter. Some might agree on this, but those who get selected know the amount of hard work and dedication that goes into the preparation and the commitment and dedication that would be required in their journey ahead.
From preparing yourself for the exam to cracking it and the interview sessions, the process is highly rigorous and brings the best out of you. However, a lot of the aspirants are not able to be on the appropriate path and are often disheartened. As all hard work and no smart play does not work when it comes to cracking MBA entrance exams. To enlighten the current batch of students in providing the best study tips and preparation strategies, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised an interactive session on “Make it to the B-Schools- Get Informed and Get Inspired” and what would be a better way to “Learn It from Star Ex-Students”. The session was held on July 9, 2021 from 4pm onwards with more than 200 students attending it online. The session saw a mixed audience from different semesters and courses. The day began with Prof. Dilip Shah who spoke about the activities that the ex-students undertook during their college days and the transformation he witnesses in them. He also spoke at length about the other ex-students who have joined top B-Schools but are not present in the session currently. The floor was then taken over by the aspiring alumni, Muskaan Kedia, Sreeja Ray and Mayank Bhartia. At first, they spoke about their experience at the college and then about their preparation and strategy. The chat box was filled with queries by the audience, mostly based on prep-strategy, value of organising/ taking part in events and internships, how one can read the newspapers effectively and how to upskill themselves in particular segments before the exams.
Muskaan Kedia– college topper from the B. Com department who passed out in 2019 spoke about how she used to manage her days in college and how she transformed herself into the eloquent speaker that she is today. She described her journey in participating in debates and how she managed to organise a TEDx Event which added on to her profile. She also spoke about how her experiences in college helped her in cracking 10 IIMs, MDI Gurgaon and IIFT in 2021. Sreeja Ray who passed out in 2019 with a BSc Economics Hons degree cracked XLRI in 2020. She spoke about her journey in classes and how important it is to have a mentor and that students should seek mentorship. She also spoke about how different types of internships can add onto a student’s profile and how reading at least the business and economics section of newspapers can help the students. Mayank Bhartia who passed out in 2017 from the Bcom Department and joined IIM C in 2021 spoke about how students pursuing CA/CFA can do MBA as well and how they can manage their preparations. He also advised students on how to improve themselves in the Quantitative Aptitude segment for CAT. While the trio provided all necessary details, answered all queries in the chat box and perfectly coordinated the whole session among themselves and the audience, keeping it interactive and smooth flowing; an important point where they all stressed on was the importance of mock exams, consistency, and determination.
Needless to say, the session for the students was just as it was written in the poster- Informative and Inspiring.
