There are various students at The Bhawanipur Education Society College who have interest in topics of science and an inquisitiveness that runs deep. And this is certainly not limited to the ones pursuing Science stream. That was the realisation that inspired the idea of organising this event.
Furthermore, the turmoil and anxiety that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought on, “Phenomenon 2020” was a perfect platform to empower their curiosity and the urge to create something, but also help them distract constructively and productively.
The event required all the participants to submit a video explaining a topic that they feel should be talked about, something that does not just inform or inspire them but would do that for everyone watching it. The team started off with several “Did you Know” posters that was meant to inform anyone who was reading about various facts from a spectrum of topics.
The posters were also supposed to create a hype and make people wonder what “Phenomenon 2020” was. On 8th of June the event was finally announced. The registrations were set to open on the 12th and close on 20th of June. There were more than 50 registrations by end and about 22 Submissions.
The videos submitted were illuminating and creative and the effort that the participants had put in the videos was evident.
The next step was for the videos to be judged and winners to be decided. There were two judges for the event, Prof. Dilip Shah the Dean of Student Affairs and Prof. Akash Mehta faculty at the Computer Science department. All the videos were set to be watched on Google Meet, and the session was initiated with an inspiring speech by Prof. Dilip Shah.
All the videos were screened, and Prof Akash gave his valuable suggestions to all the participants about their videos and explained how they could have made them more interesting.
The event came to an end after about three hours of screening. Three winners were announced and in no particular order. They were Harshita Jaiswal, Ramsha Tuba and Ashish Lal.
The event turned out to be a success and more importantly it provided a platform for students that focuses on exploration of the creative and intellectual realms. It set up the premise for more such events that would stimulate brainstorming and inventiveness and because of this a community was formed consisting of Junior Science Communicators, to make Science more engaging and participating.
