The Athletic Meet of the Bhawanipur Education Society College, Urja, was held at Gitanjali Stadium on February 29, 2020 displaying the qualities of sportsmanship and teamwork of the students. The sprawling playground wore a festive look with colorful flags and well laid tracks. The event commenced with the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah addressing the crowd and encouraging the contenders to take an oath to ensure fair play and true sportsmanship. He then welcomed the guests for the day – Members of Management: Sri Champak Lal Doshi, Chairman BESC, Smt Nalini Parekh, Smt. Renuka Bhatt, Sri Jitu Shah, Sri Umesh Shah; Faculty Members: Prof Minakshi Chaturvedi; Dr Vasundhara Mishra; Divya P. Udeshi and the Sports Officers- Manikant Chaudhary, Bhavin Parmar, Rupesh Gandhi. Present on the occasion were many other teaching & non-teaching staff members. The athletic meet was declared open by the lighting of torch by the sports officers and the torch bearers taking a lap of the ground and lighting the cauldron of the sports meet. This was followed by a well-coordinated March-past by the NCC unit of the college, followed by the contingents form the college.
The competitions for the students consisted of three rounds each- the selection round, the prelims and the finales. The winners for the various competitions are as follows:
Nimesh Jaiswal bagged the first prize for Discus throw (boys), Ankush Jajodia won the first runner up, and Aniket Das won the second runner up.
Kumari Komal bagged the first prize for Discus throw (girls), Jyoti Goral won the first runner up, and Barsa Singh won the second runner up.
Nimesh Jaiswal bagged the first prize for Shot Put (boys), Vivek Parmar won the first runner up, and Vedant Kanodia won the second runner up.
Barsa Singh bagged the first prize for Shot Put (girls), Akshita Kedia won the first runner up, and Kumar Muskan won the second runner up.
Ankush Jajodia bagged the first prize for Javelin Throw (boys), Utkarsh Ojha won the first runner up, and Vivek Parmar won the second runner up.
Rajaram Choudhary bagged the first prize for 100M Flat Race (boys), Ayush Kataruka won the first runner up, and Dirakar Bharti won the second runner up.
Saparya Chakraborty bagged the first prize for 100M Flat Race (girls), Raveera won the first runner up, and Manisha Ghosh won the second runner up.
Rajaram Choudhary bagged the first prize for 200M Flat Race (boys), Debojyoti Maujmadar won the first runner up, and Abhijeet Kumar Singh won the second runner up.
Saparya Chakraborty bagged the first prize for 200M Flat Race (girls), Nishi Gandha won the first runner up, and Raveera won the second runner up.
Sabir bagged the first prize for 400M Race (boys), Nazam Rehmani won the first runner up, and Silevan Gomes won the second runner up.
Nishi Gandha bagged the first prize for 400M Race (girls), Manisha Ghosh won the first runner up, and Saparya Chakraborty won the second runner up.
Team 19 bagged the first prize for Relay Race (boys), Team 23 won the first runner up, and Team 14 won the second runner up and Team 12 bagged the first prize for Relay Race (girls), Team 15 won the first runner up, and Team 4 won the second runner up.
There was also a special category of races for the various teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. The winner, first runner up and the second up of the 50M Reverse Walk (female) were Rebecca Gasper, Darshana Trivedi and Samreen Alem respectively ; the winner, first runner up and the second up of the 50M Reverse Walk (male) were Manikant Choudhary, Divyesh Shah and Minesh Maniar respectively; and the winner, first runner up and the second up of the 100M Walk (female) were Rebecca, Samreen and Vasundhara Mishra respectively.
Out of almost 150 contestants, the winner for the overall Best Athlete (Female) for the Meet was Saparya Chakraborty and for the Best Athletes (Male) were Rajaram Choudhary and Nimesh Jaiswal. The Business Entrepreneurship and Startup Training (BEST) collective of the college brought home the prize for the best contingent in this competition. At the end of the meet, Prof. Dilip Shah announced the winners of the races and asked the Referees to award the winners with the medals and trophies. The event ended with a round of applause for the winners from the cheerful crowd.
