A One Day National Seminar on “Developments in Commerce, Management and Economics in the present Milieu of VUCA” was held in the Jubilee Hall of the college on 27th May 2019. The seminar was organised by the Department of Commerce of the college in collaboration with EIRC, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. The thrust of the seminar was on unfurling the several challenges and threats faced by organizations in context of the changing market morphologies, customer preferences and government policies. There were thought provoking deliberations by the different eminent resource persons and speakers. Their deliberations provided deep insight on the recent developments in the fields of accounting and finance, management, taxation, marketing and economics.
The seminar started with an opening address by Prof. Dilip Shah, Dean of Student Affairs of the college. This was followed by a welcome address by the Teacher-in-Charge Dr.Suchandra Chakravarty and an address by Dr. Suman Mukerjee. The Plenary session was chaired by CA SumitBinani, Chairman, EIRC-ICAI and, CA Mohit Bhutoria, CA Animesh Mukhopadhyay and CA R.K.Vyaswere the speakers of this session. Their discussions threw light on the changing tax regime and the impacts on implementation of GST. This was followed by three technical sessions. The first technical session was chaired by Prof. AmalenduBhunia, Professor, University of Kalyani. In this session Prof. Debasish Sur, Professor, University of Burdwan enlightened the audience with a discussion on Business Risk – A Study on Indian Manufacturing Companies. The second and the third technical sessions werealso chairedby Prof. Debashis Sur, Professor, University of Burdwan. Prof. Saibal Kar, Professor of Econmics, Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, gave a paper titled “Tax Financed Public Transfers – are welfare information assymetrical?” in the second technical session. Dr.Pranam Dhar, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Commerce and Management, West Bengal State University, enlightened the audience about the recent developments in the banking sector with his address in the third technical session.
This seminar had great response of students, research scholars and teachers from within and outside the college. Several papers were also presented by teachers from different colleges. The outstanding paper presenters were also awarded by the college. The awardees were Dr. Anish Kr. Dan, Dr. Rupam Mukherjee, Soumya Ganguly, Dr.AvijitSikdar and Priyadarshini Chatterjee. It was an enriching academic and research-oriented discourse organised by the joint organising secretaries Prof. Paramita Chakravarty and Dr.Divyesh Shah.
