Prof Bharat Dalal, Director of the Pune Institute of Business Management and Mohit Agarwal, Founder of Career Keeda, which seeks to bridge the gap between a qualified and a practically well- versed student, held an interesting session on the different related aspects of career-oriented studies focussing primarily on the do’s and the don’ts of appearing for an interview.
Prof Dilip Shah, the Dean of Student Affairs of the Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) introduced the distinguished guests to a packed auditorium and urged the students to take heed of the words of wisdom that were to follow.
Both the speakers talked about the plethora of opportunities that are now available before the students, who are not only spoilt for a choice, but in effect, lose out on valuable guidance that can help them separate the grains from the chaff. A step by step process was advocated by the speakers, who took the students through the entire spectrum, from the campus to the shop floor.
Crafting a career, the speakers stressed, is easier said than done, a fact that is underscored by the mushrooming of the so-called career-counsellors and organisations offering such guidance.
However, the onus of charting their career paths are with the students themselves, a false step, often leading to disastrous consequences that have to be borne throughout one’s life.
This is reason why, both speakers stressed, students should be extra vigilant about the careers they choose and actively pursue.
The importance of linking one’s passion with one’s work – making what one loves as one’s bread earner – was also something that the speakers stressed upon.
Both the speakers were extremely erudite, apart from having “been there, done that” achievers who were talking as much from practical experience as academically, which made the session even more attractive to the students.
The seminar, which was a kind of a forerunner to the campus placement drive that is to follow close in the heels, was indeed an eye-opener for many of the participating students, who found the guidance offered literally invaluable. The highpoint however, was the extremely lively interactive session that followed wherein both the speakers addressed the queries raised by the students.
The Seminar was a part of the continuous process in the BESC wherein students are provided with opportunities to hear industry experts provide their real-life views and share actual experience which add a tremendous amount of value to the learning process, taking education beyond the close confines of academics.
Students are encouraged to interact with the exponents of the calling that they plan to embrace as career options, thereby gathering such information straight from the horse’s mouth as is required to help them make the choice.
From Passion to Profession is the all-encompassing key line that explains this unique BESC initiative under which a series of career Plus initiatives are conducted by the institution that are aimed at helping students become deployment ready by infusing them with the skill sets that are necessary to make the transition from the campus to the industrial shop floors so as to be gainfully employed.
